Lumen in the Land of Nanite
We made this demo to introduce the world to the future of Unreal Engine 5, showcasing two new technologies in particular: Nanite (virtualized geometry) and Lumen (realtime global illumination). This is a fully playable gameplay demo that runs on Playstation 5 (it even includes an attract mode and a drone).
Fortnite Party Royale
I’ve had the opportunity to help out on Fortnite from time to time, most prominently with the Party Royale concert series.
Chaos Destruction Demo
The Special Projects group developed an interactive destruction demo in Epic’s Robo Recall universe to showcase Unreal Engine’s new Chaos physics system. The demo was playable at GDC 2019 and Siggraph 2019.
Unreal/Mandalorian Virtual Production Tech
I was part of the group at Epic Games that developed the virtual production stage tech that was used to shoot The Mandalorian. Specifically, I developed the VR toolset that allows creatives to scout virtual environments in a multi-user environment. This toolset ships free with Unreal Engine and is now used by a host of movies, TV shows and commercials.
Unreal Engine
I started working with Epic in 1998, shipping the Unreal Mission Pack and Unreal 2. I started working for Epic Games in 2018 as the design lead of the Special Projects group, which makes all of our forward-looking tech demos. We frequently collaborate with partners on genre & boundary-pushing projects, as well.
I’ve occasionally moonlighted on Fortnite.
A few of the projects I’ve shipped with Epic are listed below.
